Vanza finds luminous songs in the darkness of the world on his new album: Superconmotion

Superconmotion is the fourth studio album by Vanza, the project of the artist from La Plata Lucas Vanza. In this new work, the musician turns his music towards other latitudes, touched by new sounds and textures, which make up forceful and polychromatic material. Despite the fact that my north is always the song, all the time I am looking for new directions and styles, Vanza tells in a conversation with Indie Hoy about the search for the sound behind his new album.

On this occasion, and unlike his previous albums, Lucas decided to record his new LP entirely in a professional studio, the Mírifico in the city of Mar del Plata, and by the hand of producer Adriano Martino. Before, I recorded in my home studio, but this time I decided to work in a real studio, super-equipped and locked, together with the producer and my colleagues -explains the artist-. I also wanted to change my aesthetic and Adri helped me a lot with that because he comes from a more jazzy side.

The result of this joint work was Superconmotion, an eclectic and powerful album, less self-referential than his previous releases, and based on literary stories that Vanza himself projected for each of the songs. Although life is a melting pot of beautiful things, in my work I like to emphasize the dark and the terrible of our passage. Not with a defeatist goal, but with hope, he comments on the identity of the compositions on the album.

As the musician explains, the title of the album -which also gives its name to one of the tracks- is a word invented by him but perfectly synthesizes the stories that surround all the compositions of this new material. Although in my records I always talk about personal issues, the environment and what is happening around me, I feel that Superconmotion deals with my path through this convulsed world but without ceasing to be challenged by the people and things that happen in my city and in the world. whole world.

The sound of the LP moves easily around the edges of indie pop and alternative rock with nods to the new wave of the eighties. It’s no coincidence: the search behind the sound was a creative convention with its producer and his band that used different tools to materialize the concept behind the album. We used some samples. One of them from the song ‘Elephant Talk’ by King Crimson. Later in ‘Dosis de tu amor’ I used the rhythmic pattern and phrasing of ‘Going from bed to living room’ by Charly García.

About the future of the project, Vanza remains optimistic and confesses that he wants to present his most recent material in the city of Buenos Aires. They are also participating in the World Cup of Bands from La Plata organized by the Ciudad de Gatos cultural space, with the possibility of being part of the renowned Aire Festival. I would like Supershock to be a double jolt for people, that it reaches them and stays with them not only for the music but also for the lyrics. I hope the message seems good to you, concludes the musician.
