All that Black Lives Matter Movement. What Did They Get?

The Black Lives Matter movement has been at the forefront of global attention for quite some time now. It has sparked discussions, debates, and even protests all over the world. Many have joined in the fight for racial equality and justice, while others have questioned the purpose and impact of the movement. But for me, it was a personal experience that inspired me to take action and start Auntie Angie’s House.

Growing up as a Black woman in America, I have faced my fair share of discrimination and prejudice. From being followed around in stores to being overlooked for job opportunities, I have seen firsthand the inequalities that exist in our society. But it was the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless others that pushed me to do something about it.

It was heartbreaking to see the continuous violence and systemic racism towards Black people in this country. I couldn’t sit back and just watch it happen anymore. That’s when I decided to start Auntie Angie’s House, a safe haven for Black children and families in need.

The name “Auntie Angie’s House” was inspired by my childhood. My aunt, who was like a second mother to me, always opened her home to anyone who needed it. She was a beacon of light and love in our community, and I wanted to continue her legacy by creating a space where Black children and families could feel safe, loved, and supported.

But it wasn’t just about providing a physical space. I wanted to create a support system for families who have been affected by racism and discrimination. Auntie Angie’s House offers counseling services, educational resources, and mentorship programs for children and youth. We also have workshops and seminars to educate parents on how to navigate the challenges of raising Black children in a society that often sees them as a threat.

The Black Lives Matter movement has brought much-needed attention to the injustices faced by Black people. But it has also been met with backlash and criticism. Many have questioned the purpose and effectiveness of the movement, asking, “what did they get?”

To those who ask this question, I say this: Black Lives Matter has achieved a lot. It has sparked crucial conversations about race and inequality, brought awareness to the issues faced by the Black community, and inspired people to take action. It has also led to legal and social changes, such as police reform and the removal of Confederate symbols.

But more than that, Black Lives Matter has given hope to millions of Black people who have been marginalized and oppressed for too long. It has shown us that we are not alone in this fight, and together, we can make a difference.

Auntie Angie’s House is just one small part of the larger movement for racial justice. But I believe that every little action counts. By providing a safe space for Black children and families, we are creating a ripple effect of positivity and change in our community. We are showing the younger generation that they are valued, loved, and capable of achieving great things.

I am proud to be a part of the Black Lives Matter movement and to have started Auntie Angie’s House as a response to it. But I also know that there is still a long way to go. We must continue to fight against racism and inequality in all its forms. And I hope that one day, we won’t need a movement like Black Lives Matter because equality and justice will be a reality for all.

In conclusion, the Black Lives Matter movement has achieved a lot, and it continues to inspire change and progress. It has shown the power of unity and the importance of standing up against injustice. And for me, it has motivated me to use my voice and my actions to make a positive impact on my community. I urge everyone to join in the fight for racial equality and justice, and together, we can create a better future for all.
