The prestigious honor society, Phi Beta Kappa, has recently announced its newest members, and we are proud to say that four MIT faculty and 13 additional MIT alumni have been honored with this prestigious recognition. With over 250 new members inducted, it is truly an achievement to be among the select few chosen for this honor.

Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest and most respected academic honor society in the United States, recognizing outstanding academic achievement in the liberal arts and sciences. Its members are chosen based on their academic excellence, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to the pursuit of knowledge. Being inducted into Phi Beta Kappa is a testament to one’s dedication and hard work in their academic pursuits.

Among the four MIT faculty members honored by Phi Beta Kappa are Professor Maria Zuber, Professor David Mindell, Professor Hazel Sive, and Professor David Kaiser. These esteemed individuals have made significant contributions to their respective fields and have inspired countless students with their passion for learning. Their induction into Phi Beta Kappa is a reflection of their exceptional academic achievements and their commitment to academic excellence.

In addition to the faculty members, 13 MIT alumni have also been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. These alumni have gone on to achieve great success in their careers and have made a positive impact in their communities. Their time at MIT has undoubtedly played a significant role in shaping their academic and personal growth, and their induction into Phi Beta Kappa is a testament to their dedication and hard work.

The induction ceremony, held virtually this year due to the ongoing pandemic, was a momentous occasion for all the new members. The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including MIT President L. Rafael Reif, who congratulated the new members on their achievement. In his address, President Reif highlighted the importance of academic excellence and encouraged the new members to continue their pursuit of knowledge and make a positive impact in the world.

Being inducted into Phi Beta Kappa is not only a recognition of one’s academic achievements but also a responsibility to uphold the values of the society. The society’s motto, “Love of learning is the guide of life,” serves as a reminder to the new members to continue their pursuit of knowledge and use it to make a positive impact in society.

The four MIT faculty members and 13 alumni join an elite group of individuals who have been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa over the years. This honor is a testament to their hard work, dedication, and passion for learning.
