As Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) revealed last Tuesday at a press briefing, a vote to decide whether an impeachment inquiry should be carried out against Joe Biden is due this week. The potential inquiry has been met with a range of responses ranging from hope to apprehension.
In addition, House Republicans have recently released a comprehensive ‘Impeachment Inquiry Explainer’ that gives an overview of the various allegations against Biden. The information contained in the explainer, which runs for almost 90 minutes long, provides detailed evidence and arguments against Biden for those considering his removal from office.
The document, which includes testimony from witnesses and experts, offers compelling evidence to support the various accusations against Biden. Witnesses and experts claimed that the former vice-president abused his power in Ukraine to benefit his son Hunter Biden and Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company. Hunter Biden had lucrative business relationships with Burisma which have been scrutinized.
The document also claims that Biden attempted to pressure Ukrainian government officials to launch an investigation into Burisma’s activities in a letter written by then-Ukrainian Prosecutor General Lutsenko. It’s alleged that Lutsenko was told that if he didn’t comply, the US government would freeze a $1 billion loan guarantee to Ukraine.
The document contains several redacted sections to protect the names of other witnesses. It’s been strongly suggested, however, that Biden and some of his closest allies were involved in a scheme to use the power of the US government to benefit their own interests over the interests of the public.
The release of the Impeachment Inquiry Explainer is just one of many efforts to prove Biden’s alleged wrongdoing. Although the outcome of Thursday’s vote is currently unknown, many Republicans are already calling for impeachment proceedings to begin as soon as possible.
It’s unclear just how far the inquiry will go, but this is certainly the first step towards establishing whether a formal investigation into Joe Biden is necessary. For now, the public must remain patient and await the outcome of the upcoming vote. Whether Biden will be found guilty of any wrongdoing or not, it’s encouraging to see the House GOP doing their due diligence and providing such a comprehensive document.
