Biden says he has not demanded Netanyahu hold off on ground invasion

President Biden Meets with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

President Joe Biden on Wednesday reaffirmed his support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, asserting that he did not demand the Israeli leader hold off on a ground invasion into Gaza until Hamas released captives. Biden held a meeting with the Israeli Prime Minister on Wednesday in Israel and has stayed in contact with him to discuss the crisis, that began with the Hamas terrorist attacks that killed more than 1,400 people on Oct. 7.

Since the beginning of the crisis, Biden has been working closely with Netanyahu to come to a peaceful resolution and to protect innocent civilian lives. It was reported that Biden had suggested that Israel delay its ground invasion until Hamas released its captives, but the President clarified that he had not made such a demand.

In a press conference Wednesday, President Biden reaffirmed his support for Prime Minister Netanyahu, saying, “I want to make it absolutely clear that I believe the Prime Minister is doing the right thing. I don’t think it’s reasonable or realistic to expect him to sit still in the face of these terrible acts of violence against innocent civilians. We must all work together to achieve a peaceful solution.”

The President went on to discuss the role of the United States in finding a resolution to the crisis, saying the U.S. will continue to work with the international community to establish a lasting peace. Biden also noted the importance of restarting talks between Israel and Palestine, and reengaging in the diplomatic process.

The President and Prime Minister agreed that the violence in the region needs to end as soon as possible and that an “unending cycle of violence must be broken.”

Biden also stated that the United States will provide humanitarian aid to Palestinians who have been affected by the conflict. The U.S. will work with international partners to deliver vital assistance to address this crisis, including medical supplies and aid for those who have been displaced.

The Biden administration is currently working with Arab countries in the region to help facilitate negotiations between Israel and Palestine and to ultimately bring an end to the conflict. Biden has also reiterated his commitment to the long-term security of Israel, calling for a two-state solution to the problems between the two countries.

The President and the Prime Minister have both committed to working together to end the violence and restore peace in the region. President Biden has made it clear that he is committed to finding a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and supporting the security of the region.
