Today, the official inauguration of the negotiation table for a new concession contract with the company Minera Panamá took place.
The Minister of Commerce and Industries, Ramón Martínez, who leads the negotiating team appointed by the President of the Republic, highlighted that the meetings will address various topics related to economic, fiscal, environmental, labor, and social aspects. The main objective is to ensure that the mine’s operation complies with international standards of best practices.
Martinez warned that if an agreement is not reached on the proposed terms, they will seek to negotiate with another company. According to the minister, the “current conditions” will not be maintained.
Minera Panamá, on the other hand, expressed in a statement their confidence that the negotiation process beginning today will be transparent, thorough, and robust for the benefit of the country. They hope that both the best interests of the State and the company’s acquired rights will be respected, seeking the best outcomes for Panama.
In this regard, they insist that the negotiation table be a space where private capital investment and legal certainty are respected, aiming to achieve a beneficial outcome for all parties involved and for the country. This was affirmed by Manuel Aizpurúa, spokesperson and member of the negotiating team representing the company.
