The BOE formalizes the end of the health crisis caused by COVID-19
More than three years later, the Government says goodbye to a pandemic that has shown the importance of truly committing to the One Health concept and in which veterinarians have contributed their work as specialists in animal and human health.

The Official State Gazette (BOE) has formalized the end of the health crisis caused by COVID-19, a pandemic that requires the implementation of common strategies to ensure the health of animals, human beings and the environment so as not to repeat the mistakes of the past. In this sense, veterinarians have played a fundamental role as specialists in animal and human health. The prevention of diseases in animals not only protects their health and well-being, but is one of the most effective steps to safeguard the health of people. Thus, betting on One Health is the only possible path, as has been reflected during the pandemic.
In this sense, the Minister of Health, José Miñones, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of Spain with the integration of the One Health approach in public health policies; an “expansive and interdependent perspective” that takes into account the interconnection between human health, animal health and environmental health.

For professionals who care for symptomatic cases.
For people who work in ICUs and Units with vulnerable patients following control recommendations of infection recommended by the Preventive Medicine and Occupational Risk Prevention Services.
In hospital emergencies or primary care, including the waiting room.
In residential centers for the elderly and people with disabilities , although the universal use of masks is not recommended, it is considered necessary to take additional precautions in the event of the appearance of symptoms in workers, residents or visitors, to avoid outbreaks.
Promotion of vaccination and surveillance
Vaccination against COVID-19 and other microorganisms that cause respiratory infections will be the cornerstone of this new stage. In this sense, Miñones has pointed out that Spain has been an example of vaccination worldwide.
To strengthen integrated surveillance of acute respiratory infections in a sustainable way, a sentinel surveillance system must be maintained that integrates monitoring of acute respiratory infection in both primary care and hospital care and that includes at least surveillance of influenza, COVID-19 and Respiratory Syncytial Virus.

Clinical reports in the SNS
On the other hand, the Council of Ministers has approved, at the proposal of the Ministry of Health, the modification of Royal Decree 1093/2010, which establishes the minimum set of data for clinical reports in the National Health System (SNS). The standardization of clinical content between the different autonomous communities makes it easier to share clinical reports within the SNS, thus avoiding duplication and repetition of medical tests and improving the quality of care.
In In this process, priority will be given to the use of SNOMED CT (Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine – Clinical Terms), the comprehensive, multilingual and codified clinical reference terminology for the exchange of health data.
